Please note the change of dates / session outlines below. The session originally scheduled for 22nd June has been postponed so that the venue can be used for a Summer League fixture. An additional session for Monday 3rd August has been added instead.
(Updated 14th June). Mircea Mesesan, one of the top players representing Lichfield in league chess, has kindly volunteered to lead four summer training sessions in June, July and August.
The sessions will build on the very well-received training led by Mircea last summer, and are appropriate for players up to at least an 1800 ECF level.
The themes for each session are based on GM Artur Yusupov's highly regarded "Build Up Your Chess" series:
- Monday 8th June 2026 - "Centralizing the pieces" (strategy)
- Monday 13th July 2026 - "Mate in two moves" (calculation)
- Monday 27th July 2026 - "The opposition" (endgame)
- Monday 3rd August 2026 - "The pin" (tactics)
Sessions will begin at 7:30pm in the upstairs room at The King's Head, and are open to all members.
