Three players who regularly play for Lichfield teams (or combined Burton & Lichfield teams) represented Derbyshire in the U2050 Counties Championship semi-final against Yorkshire on Saturday 13th June. Richard Anderson (playing on Board 6), David Pickering (playing on Board 13) and Anushka Ramawickrama (playing on Board 14) all drew their games against higher-rated opponents.
Derbyshire were out-graded on every board, but the match result looked likely to be close for most of the afternoon, until a flurry of late defeats meant that Yorkshire eventually won 10.5 - 5.5. George Burdell of Derby Chess Club was the only winner for Derbyshire.
The match was hosted at Sheffield's dedicated chess training / match venue, the Sheffield Chess Centre.
