Fine start for debutants
The Lichfield Summer League is again showing its value in providing opportunities for newcomers. Prior to the formation of the League in 2024 Francis Fields and Richard Ayres would have had to wait for the winter league season to show they will be valuable additions to the club's seemingly ever growing strength
No longer. Drafted into the Lichfield B team for Round Two they made excellent contributions as Lichfield swept to a 3.5 - 0.5 win over Rugeley. Francis drew on board one against Steve Heath and Richard won on board four against Alan Salmon
Ian Boddington was in a difficult position for some time before managing to fork Darren Mountford's Rooks on board three. Stephen Shields was another winner, Dan Turner's Kingside attack faltered and faced with mate in two, resigned.
This was Lichfield B's second win in a row after beating Lichfield A 3.5 - 0.5 in Round 1.
Lichfield A team atoned for their heavy first round defeat beating Tamworth 3.5 - 0.5. Phil Sykes was the star performer for Lichfield A defeating an opponent with a 150 point grading advantage. Teenager Isaac Adams can be very proud of his Queen sacrifice which resulted in a smothered mate. Connor Whetnall had a strong opening which led to a swift win, while John Fryer always seemed one move away from getting his attack going and the match was drawn.
